Phoenix Home and Garden

Gardening and Chicken Keeping is a huge part of our lives, we love sharing our passion with others; that's why we're excited to announce that our little backyard farm is one of the local gardens featured in the April issue of Phoenix Home and Gardens! Cathy Cromwell, the magazine's garden Editor-at-Large, gives readers a good look into the lives of small-flock owners and how we incorporate our chickens into our gardening lifestyle. Here's a behind the scenes view of Phoenix Home and Garden Photogragher, Richard Maack and Senior Design Associate, Brian Lilley at work in the our garden.
Here are the "girls" doing what they do best, scratching for bugs. Of course, they are oblivious to the fact that they are about to be photographed.
It's not easy directing a flock of chickens to peck around within a small area, they just don't stay put. Here, I'm throwing out chicken scratch hoping to keep them in position.
Here's Ace, one of the garden dogs feeling a little left out." What's the big deal about chickens, anyway?" Now to the chicken owners. I'm not sure how many times Richard has photographed chickens, but he really seemed to know what he was doing. So, when it came to us, he had me hold a basket of eggs, which seemed logical for a chicken story. But, I was afraid we were going to look like weird, hippy gardener people. I was relieved when I saw the article, we actually look pretty normal! Thanks, Richard for helping us out in that way. You are very skillfull with that camera.

Thank you to Nancy Erdmann, Executive Editor/Garden Editor for choosing us to help spread the word. Thanks again to Phoenix Home and Garden, my favorite local magazine for sharing our chicken and gardening lives in the same pages as the gorgeous, unbelievable, over-the-top luxury homes here in the beautiful Valley of the Sun. See you at the newstand!
